Bkr was founded by Tal Winter and Kate Cutler in 2011 as a sustainable, luxurious alternative to cheap, disposable plastic bottles, and from the belief that skin glows from the inside. These deluxe and reusable water bottles will motivate you to drink the recommended two liters of water every day without harming the environment. Made from lightweight glass with a BPA- and phthalate-free silicone seal, Bkr is the beauty essential that will change the way you hydrate forever.

HOW DID IT ALL START? 

Both our moms have always had gorgeous skin and almost exclusively drank water our whole lives. They taught us early on that water is the foundation of an effective beauty regimen. We have always known that to be true, but like everyone else at some point we found ourselves drinking from disposable plastic. It did not make sense that people who care so much about what they eat and put into their bodies were essentially drinking from trash. We were into everything organic and natural, yet we were drinking out of chemical plastic. We could not find a reusable bottle we loved and we did not like the experience of drinking out of metal: it made water taste and smell awful, you could not see into it and you could not put it in the dishwasher. So we made exactly what we wanted; something beautiful, effortless, sheer, pure and chic. We knew if we wanted it, other people would too.

Beauty is about feeling good in your own skin. The most beautiful women are confident; they accept and love themselves as they are. When you feel beautiful on the inside, you radiate that on the outside.

Honestly, our kids and our business.

 

WHO INSPIRES YOU?  

Beyoncé, Diane Von Furstenberg, Michelle Obama, JK Rowling and so many of our own friends and fellow women entrepreneurs – powerful, creative, inspiring, badass women who do it all with children at their side. 

WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED (THE HARD WAY)?

One of the best pieces of advice we have gotten is to never make a decision with a gun to your head. “If you need an answer now, the answer is no.” Rushed decisions that are not properly thought out never end up being the best decisions.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WANT THE CONSUMER TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BRAND?

We are perfectionists. We never just create to create, we want to innovate, make things that did not exist before and make them the very best. When we created the bkr, there were no glass water bottles and we took our time to create something unique that would feel like luxury. We have taken this mind-frame and partnered with one of the best natural formulators in the world. 

 

WHAT ARE YOUR BEST BEAUTY TRICKS? 

We actually have pretty simple beauty routines. We are never not sipping from our bkrs, we never go to bed with makeup on, we try to use clean skincare products, we are devout exfoliators and moisturizers and our secret weapon; lash extensions!

Bkr is a response to the excessive use of plastic bottles where an estimated 1,500 plastic bottles end up as waste in landfills or thrown in the ocean every second! It takes one PET plastic bottle 700(!) years to start decomposing and plastic is listed as the number one threat to our heavily exposed marine ecosystem. Bottled water does not necessarily equal cleaner water. In a recent US study, more than 90% of the world’s most popular water bottle brands was found to contain an average of 325 plastic particles for every liter of water being sold.
